Community Properties of Ohio Management Services (CPO Management) serves as the property management affiliate of Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing and manages a variety of affordable housing communities. Using the Housing First model, CPO leverages affordable housing as a platform from which individuals and families can build stability and thrive. CPO Management, funded through our 501(c)(3) affiliate CPO Impact, goes beyond traditional property management in providing innovative resident programs to promote long-term goals and self-sufficiency. CPO currently manages over 2,800 units including our original CPO portfolio, as well as properties developed and owned by valued OCCH partners such as Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority, Homeport, Volunteers of America, YWCA/YMCA and Franklinton Development Corporation.

Many residents have both the drive and capacity to move beyond the need for subsidized housing over time. 2018 resident growth opportunities focused on employment, adult education, financial fitness, and family-achievement coaching.

In 2018, CPO continued the Parent Pledge (2017 initiative), a supportive network of parents and organizations committed to creating a successful learning environment for children. CPO staff, located in Weinland Park Elementary, created opportunities for Pledge parents to engage at the school and implemented targeted interventions for student attendance and behavior. Family University, a series of educational sessions to equip and empower parents, focused on trauma and mental wellness.

Investing in Collective Impact

There is no area of work to support our residents that can be achieved without collaboration. CPO Impact maintains and actively cultivates more than a dozen formal and many other informal partners. Beyond linkage and referral, CPO brings partners together to solve problems, learn from our shared experience, and leverage resources. CPO Impact serves as a hub for data sharing across 6 local service providers, which allows us to measure our collective impact.
In 2018, CPO invested in our collective capacity to address mental health – a persistent area of need identified by CPO staff and partners – using trauma-informed approaches. CPO facilitated partnership between Weinland Park Elementary School (WPES) and Directions for Youth and Families to implement professional development for school staff and services for students, including placement of a full-time counselor in the school with the capacity to serve up to 30 students with behavioral needs. CPO enhanced our focus on measurable impact by convening partners to learn and practice Results Based Accountability, an outcomes-based quality improvement framework. We broadened our geographic focus by launching Neighborhood Network on the Near East Side, hosting monthly gatherings at Central Community House where residents connect with each other and resources in a safe, supportive environment. Continued expansion of the partnership ecosystem will be a major focus in 2019.
